Designer Spotlight: Terzakou
Terzakou has recently been recognized as one of 2012’s menswear designers to watch according to Women’s Wear Daily. Terzakou, however, is less of a designer and more of a fur artisan powerhouse that has decided to capitalize on today’s growing interest in furs. Terzakou is readily recognized as one of the best ateliers in Paris, which happens to be no easy feat, but they decided to take it a step further a few years ago. Collaborations between brands and businesses seem to be ever increasing, and in light of current fashion trends, this fur artisan chose to capitalize with a series of designer collaborations. Needless to say, their endeavors have been a success.
Following profits in womenswear design, Terzakou chose to launch a capsule collection featuring six menswear styles this year. The current fashion climate and trend towards elegant, refined, sophisticated styles have allowed the fur trend to carry over from womenswear and into menswear. Seeing an opportunity to utilize an underserved market, Terzakou seized at the chance to include men in their prosperous business. The decision has been met with positive reviews from customers and fashion journalists alike, peaking when fashion “bible” Women’s Wear Daily praised their line.
The capsule collection is on display now through January 27th at MP Select showroom on Rue de L’Arcade in Paris. Women’s Wear Daily reported that the collection contained luxury materials like astrakhan, lambskin leather, shaved nutria and cashmere wool. There is a double-faced hooded duffle jacket in a short length with trendy toggle closure, a bomber jacket constructed of lambskin leather, and a few more classic coat styles that would be a great investment for years to come. The wrap-fur collar is prevalent in menswear, offering warmth as well as style, and Terzakou did not neglect to offer this trend in their collection.
Terzakou’s luxury furs are designed and produced exclusively in Paris. In addition to their recent recognitions, they have long been revered by the fashionably conscious for their impeccable quality. The house serves as a reference and resource for high fashion labels from both Paris and worldwide. They are one of the only French fur companies to be granted the label “Origin Assured”, and have recently been inducted by the Ministry of Economy of Finance and Industry in France as an “Entreprises du Patrimonie Vivant”. When roughly translated, this label serves to distinguish excellence in hand craftsmanship and industrial prowess.
The first collaborations started in 2008, and included stints with Gustavo Lins Requiem, Alexis Mabille, and Josephus Thimister. It was only 2010 that the brand was renamed from T Paris to Terzakou Paris. Terzakou Paris can be found at only the best department stores worldwide. These stores include locations in London, Rome, Paris, Courchevel, Hong Kong, Beijing Korea, the USA, and Japan. Stores include Harrods, Harvey Nichols, One Plaza, Published, Alan Bilzerian, Tomorrowland and Drawer, Luisa Via Roma, and more.
